Fiber Benefits

Fibers benefits your health in numerous ways according to the U.S. National Cancer Institute (cancer.gov).  You have probably heard that fiber helps with weight loss but it also eases inflammation as well as diabetes and cancer risk.  A recent study which can be found in the Archives of Internal Medicine, indicates that eating high amounts of whole grains reduces the risk of dying from heart disease, respiratory disease, or other causes by an average of 22%. 

This nine year study included 388,122 men and women who consumed their fiber from grains, not fruits.  It was found that among the men studied,  the risk for cardiovascular and respiratory disease was reduced from 24% to as much as 56% -depending on the amount of fiber consumed.  In women, the risk was reduced by 34% to 59%.
