 Goals, Priorities, and Time Management

Goals are easier to achieve if you know what your priorities are and use good time management.  Identifying where your time is spent is a crucial step.

By now you should have written a list or paragraph about what life is like now and listed your priorities in order.  The next step is to look at your day and determine where your time actually goes.  Record how many hours or minutes are spent on things like: work, exercise, email, cleaning, making phone calls, time with family, personal maintenance, hobbies or leisure activities, grocery shopping, watching TV, etc.  Many of these vary from day to day so it may be easier to do this for a week instead of daily.

Once you have completed this, take a look at your priorities list.  Do you find most of your time is being spent on those things that are important or are other things taking over?  When I did this, I was reminded of the old saying, "The squeeky wheel gets the oil".  There were things getting more attention and time than they should have.  For example, email was a big one.  Reading and forwarding all those "mass" emails or looking over facebook was not high on my priority list-in fact it wasn't on the list at all. But I spent more time than I realized on it anyway.  So the goal for today is to see where your time goes and how that correlates to your priorities.

Just two more simple steps and you can begin to design your lifestyle program that will help you achieve all of your goals!
