Treat Dark Circles

One question many clients ask is about how to treat dark circles under the eyes.  Those dark shadows under the eyes are a constant source of frustration for many.  Once you learn what is causing those dark circles you can work on treating them.

Dark circles are caused when the blood vessels under the eye show through the thin skin of the area.  It has been determined that this is often a hereditary issue.  Aging also increases the visibility as the fat pads in that area begin to sag.  Be sure you are drinking plenty of water to keep the fat pads and under eye tissues plumped.

If you have allergies, this will make the situation worse.  The veins in that area are dilated and can appear darker.  Constant rubbing can break the delicate capillaries making it look as if you have a bruise.  Try sleeping with your head elevated, taking antihistimines, and avoid rubbing your eyes.

If you are not getting enough sleep, your skin will appear paler due to slower circulation and make the veins more apparent.  So be sure to get plenty of sleep on a regular basis.

When you overindulge in salty foods, alcohol, or smoke, the blood vessels can swell and become more apparent.  You can put a cool compress on your eyes to reduce the swelling.  Chilled black tea bags work well as the cool combined with the caffeine will shrink those vessels and reduce the appearance of dark circles.

Eye creams containing vitamin K have been effective to lighten under eye circles by strengthening the capillary walls.  These need to be used consistently for several weeks before results are visible.

There are several good concealers available which will help cover or reduce the appearance of dark circles.  If none of these work and you still want improvement, some lasers can help reduce hyperpigmentation by shrinking the vessels and thickening under eye skin and collagen.
