Tweens and Skin Care
As a skin professional, I
see many teens with advanced skin
issues such as acne and scarring.
If you
introduce your tween to a good skin care program before they hit the
teen
issues, they can have good skin for the rest of their life.
By
the age of 10 or 11,
tweens are asserting their
independence and developing their own sense of style.
This is the perfect time for them to be
responsible and also learn that they are worth the time it takes to
pamper and
take care of themselves.
At
this point, tween skin
does not require much. It
is important they cleanse skin twice a day
with a gentle cleanser followed by a light, oil free moisturizer. An SPF 15-30 should be
used daily to protect
against sun damage.
You
need to let them show
you what they want so they will be
excited to use it-thus developing good habits early.
You also have to make sure their choices are
appropriate for young skin. They
should
avoid anti-aging, acid, and grainy scrub type products.
They don’t need these ingredients and some
may be too harsh. Using
fragrance free
products will help reduce allergic reactions.
You
already know that
tweens need constant and gentle
reminders for most tasks. This
is likely
to be no different. But
preserving their
soft, smooth and radiant skin will be worth it.
